Join a small, selective, and diverse cohort of exceptional independent and international educators for an unparalleled experience. Immerse yourself in full-time study with renowned faculty, learning leadership through an interdisciplinary approach in the classroom and firsthand in the field throughout New York City - the largest and most diverse school environment in the United States. Through a program with a carefully-curated core curriculum and the additional flexibility to pursue your own unique interests, graduate after only nine months equipped with a firm foundation to realize your goals and join the respected network of Klingenstein Center alumni who are dedicated to making a positive impact through education.

Core Curriculum

  • Education Law
  • School Finance
  • Strategic School Marketing 
  • Negotiations

Elective courses may be chosen from Teachers College or other schools of Columbia University.

Fieldwork

Students collaborate weekly with top leaders in New York City independent and charter schools as part of a 15-week practicum.

Capstone

Students complete a comprehensive, field-based analysis and engage in ongoing reflection. Through this exercise, students apply theory to real-world leadership and consider their future leadership approach.

Degree Types

The program awards a Master of Arts in Private School Leadership from Columbia University's Teachers College. Students with previous master's study may be able to apply credits to earn a Master of Education degree. Students may also apply to join the MA/MBA dual degree program with an additional year of full-time study at Columbia Business School or INSEAD in France or Singapore.
