What travel advice should I follow?

New York City is served by LaGuardia (7 miles), John F. Kennedy (16 miles), and Newark (25 miles) Airports. For all three, the easiest method of transportation from the airport is to take a taxi, or use a car service such as Uber or Lyft. If using a taxi, be sure to stand in the marked taxi line at the airport and take a taxi secured for you by a dispatcher. Do not accept rides from drivers who approach you while you are waiting.

Amtrak and Metro North and other regional train services also serve New York City. If arriving by train, you can also take a taxi to the hotel or use the subway system. The closest stop to the hotel is the 79th street station on the 1 line.

We do not recommend driving into New York City as parking is very difficult to secure and can be extremely expensive.

How should I get from the hotel to Teachers College?

The Arthouse Hotel NYC is 2 miles from Teachers College.

Walking: Often there is a group in the cohort that walks to TC via Broadway, which takes about 45 minutes.

Subway: The fastest method of travel is to take the 1 subway train from the 79th Street station on Broadway travelling north (Uptown & The Bronx) to the 116th Street/Columbia University station which is 4 blocks south of Teachers College. This should take about 20 minutes.

Bus: The M104 bus runs along Broadway and can be used as an alternative to the subway if needed.

You are responsible for your transportation costs. We supply you with a bus and subway Metrocard to cover your first two rides. Single ticket bus or subway rides are $2.75. A 7-day unlimited Metrocard ($32) is very convenient as it allows unlimited use on buses or subways for seven consecutive days. It can be bought at an MTA station machine using a credit card.
